The Norwegian artist Tor Olav Foss has gained international attention through more than 180 solo, collective, and guest exhibitions and is represented in public and private collections in all the five Nordic countries, as well as in Germany, France, Poland, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Kenya, and USA.
The artist works with light as the central element in his works, expressed symbolically as well as literally. This theme is anchored in Mr. Foss’ studies of philosophy and mystical tradition of the antiquities. His paintings span a broad register from naturalistic and figurative to abstract expressions in various techniques. The press has hailed Mr. Foss’ paintings as “vitamins for the soul”.
In 2004, Mr. Foss was nominated for the pan-European art competition “The Lexmark European Art prize", Trienale di Milano Italy.
The artist has designed the trophy to the official Norwegian Quality Prize, painted the side-altar in GrefsenChurch in Oslo and the adornment of the Chapel of Mary in Bliksvær, Northern Norway. He has been awarded prizes in photography in both Norway and Sweden and is represented in several European books and publications.
During the world fair EXPO 2000, Mr. Foss was presented in "Who’s Who Europamagazin",
and later in the Asian and South American editions of "Top Business" with the title: “The Art of Light, the Light of Art”.
